Le Grand Bleu - Holiday Special - William Furniss Photography

Le Grand Bleu - Holiday Special

Cities are founded on their relationship with water. It is the essential element of every city worldwide. Whilst it creates it is also an agent of entropy. This is the theme I look to capture in these fleeting moments of beauty and danger as a city is reflected in the water around it. Hong Kong's typhoon shelters embody this concept perfectly and they have provided a wealth of images.

Le Grand Bleu is a high point in this body of work. The blue and greens belong to the Panasonic neon sign on top of Elizabeth House and the goldfish or dragon surfacing is a circular flood light over the Cross Harbour Tunnel, amazingly in sync with ripples from a fish breaking the surface.

There is no photoshop trickery here, just straight photographs taken with my large format camera and very long, telephoto lenses. Often I shoot at night when colour and contrast is at its most extreme. The rhythms of wind, tide and weather also have their say.

This is an archival pigment print face mounted to acrylic with dibond backboard and aluminium hanging rails.

Shipping worldwide is also included. Use code Holidays2024 for 20% discount.
